Chapter 11 Synopsis:

  • Glad to have creative freedom as a result of working in subsidized sector rather than commercially.
  • Currently working on project with beach as location.
  • The sea represents chaos and the land order, the beach represents the proximity of life and death.
  • Is very self critical so projects can start and then not be finished.
  • A Eureka moment was seeing 'The Family Album of Lucybelle Crater' by Meatyard.
  • Most recent project 'The Failed Realist' was created out of necessity.
  • Could be made in corner of the living room with collaboration of family.
  • Review by Clare Flannery in Circa described 'Seven years' as 'autofiction', found this description useful.
  • Ideas for work comes out of life experience.
  • Needs 'brain space' to generate new ideas, a good library or travel also helps.
