I choose whatever method feels right. I began using printing methods at a time when photography for me became constraining; printing brought freedom to my practice. I love been more physically involved in the making of the work making. I then found the technique of using words almost by accident, but have found it fruitful. It takes me from where I find myself uncomfortable, in a fight with the world about me. The words, or my development of them, give me a way through into a new world I can explore. It is as if I go through a very exact door. I can take my viewer with me through the door, but having done so we are both in a new place. Very wide perimeters have been set. I can have one view, and my viewer another. It takes me back to my earlier approaches which question who should be in control of my work, who should participate, and who decides where we go together? By using the words, the viewer and I take my first step.
