EffacedAs a photographer it is important to be emotionally involved within my work, and therefore I am interested in personal matters of everyday life.
My recent project 'Effaced' shows childhood struggles of identity shown through manipulations upon family album photographs. These defacements, such as burning and cutting out, done directly onto the photographs, draws attention upon this struggle, being unable to completely efface my own representation in a satisfactory way. Yet the attention from the viewer is very much drawn to the unfamiliar markings upon these family photographs and are left to try to understand and connect with this little girl whom they see faceless within the photographs in front of them.
