The Duplicate
My practice explores what negative emotions such as anxiety and depression would look like if they were an external human form -- separate, but linked to the person they inhabit - instead of being an invisible mood or symptom. The series shows two figures: one as a solid figure and one as an abstract blur, with the latter representing the negative emotions. The work explores the complex attitude a person can have towards their destructive state of mind through the interaction of the two figures. There is a constant power struggle between the two, but also a sense of familiarity and even comfort in the duplicate's presence.
