Who Was I?
Imagine finding out you were adopted at the age of 69. This is what happened to John Wallace. Having never seen his birth certificate before, this came as a complete shock; sadly there were no living relatives to quiz for answers. These photographs are part of a series to test and explore the boundaries of who we think we are. Can we be anyone we choose? Are we hard-wired to be who we think we are? It explores the dichotomy between nature and nurture. Appearance may define or indeed constrain us, but these photos encourage the viewer to interpret John's identity in different environments - who is he really?
