Nicola Thompson
Bound Vitality
Nicola Thompson is a photographer who enjoys investigating the psychology beneath her works. The series 'Bound Vitality' explores the essence of being trapped and bounded in which a dancers spirit is confined into a small space by the notion of the stripe. By using diverse materials the dancer morphs into an uncanny and an unidentifiable creature struggling to break free from the stripes clutches. Thompson used a contemporary dancer to model in her series, as the style of dance allows the body to move in many unique positions pushing the boundaries and limitations of the body. The work of Barbara Morgan was Thompson's inspiration for this series and the use of material as a restriction was something that intrigued her.
