Semper Augustus

That the most fundamental behaviour for the cultivation of society, sexuality, is also the most socially and culturally regulated is notable. As a visual artist my practice explores the historical avoidance of issues deemed to be socially unacceptable or culturally destructive. In particular, I am interested in challenging traditional depictions of sexuality as an area of human experience to be both worshiped and feared by choosing to explore instead the hysteria, the awkwardness and the banal. Semper Augustus is an inquiry into one woman's understanding of her body and its cultural and historical significance.
