| My imagery originates from contemplative reflection into the nature and essence of time and how it relates to our existence. Through the use of extremely long exposures, extended over hours, sometimes days, my work addresses the passage of time and evokes the theme of impermanence. The primary element in my work is time at its slowest, at every step of the process, which is amplified by using large format cameras and sometimes hand-made glass plate negatives. The result is reminiscent of the aura of 19th Century photography. The camera's long gaze slowly renders visible what is otherwise invisible to our naked eye. And this tension between visible and invisible is the foundation of the contemplative reflection evident in my work. |
