OUT OF PLACE
My interest in the photographs was not really in transgression but rather in the traces of human inhabitation that are left behind at the sites, and what role photography can play in documenting this memory and loss. In my photographs, I focused on the remains of fire and its effects on interior spaces. I wanted to create a sense of emptiness which is haunted by memory and traces of something which has been lost. I did this by focusing on details in the interior such as toiletries in the bathroom which had been left behind after the fire, suggesting a previous human presence. I wanted to create an effect of two different contradictory meanings; sadness combined with the beauty of the image. |
