Cascadia Media
http://www.cascadiamedia.org
Once again, the anarchist symbol appears in this site out of Oregon purporting to be for 'guerilla journalists' who use video and film for documenting resistance to everything. It has a slightly juvenile feel but is simply set up and easy to use. Their only clear political definition seems to be that they are 'left of left'.

CAT
http://www.cat.org.au
A 'community activist info node' based in Sydney which concerns itself with providing access to the internet for activists and their ilk. They provide training and access to technology as well as selling videos and tapes of a community activist nature. An organized site for the 'pedestrians and pushbikes' of the web world.

Chiapas Media Project
http://www.chiapasmediaproject.org
Based in Illinois, this is a bi-national partnership that provides video and computer training for the indigenous peoples of the Chiapas region in Mexico. A beautifully simple site design and good graphics. The links concern themselves with sites to do with Mexican social and political issues.

Fair
http://www.fair.org
The most interesting of these alternative media sites, Fair is a national (American) media watch group about fairness and accuracy in reporting. They publish Extra, the magazine of media criticism and broadcast The News Behind the Headlines, a radio program. With links to all sorts of media sites including the mainstream. One of the best things about Fair is that the authors are not anonymous and their credentials are listed.

Indy Media
http://www.indymedia.org
A collective of independent media organizations dedicated to grassroots non-corporate news coverage. Worldwide news links and very interesting links to other sites from technology to indigenous peoples, art to unions. However, the writing quality is variable and the opinion pieces need editing.

Radio4All
http://www.radio4all.net
An independent radio broadcasting site which provides compressed audio files to be downloaded and taped for broadcast. A sample of their latest programs encompasses the artist's role in social change to petro-terrorism. A small but interesting links list and archival material available free of charge.

Urban75
http://www.urban75.com
A UK independent site without much focus. Urban75 covers everything the discontented teenager could hope for: drugs, Brixton, photos of trips to Paris, angry stories about injustice. There is a lack of authority in the true sense of the word. Who writes this stuff and why should we read it?

Video Activism
http://www.videoactivism.org
This well-designed site provides a forum for videographers who support social, economic and environmental justice campaigns. There are links to most other similar sites and a bulletin board.
