Lee Costello
My work is primarily concerned with the human condition. It seeks to find the physical ways in which human fears and anxieties manifest themselves in our lives. These images are part of a series, exploring the workings of the unconscious mind. Taking inspiration from the work of Anna Gaskell as well as common dream theories, I have constructed nightmare scenes involving some of the most common nightmares, which many people encounter at some stage in their lives. Examples of these include drowning, being trapped, feeling out of control and being chased, to name a few. Examining how our fears and anxieties manifest themselves in our nightmares, this body of work aims to question the relevance of our nightmares. Do our nightmares have any significance in the waking world? Are they trying to tell us something or is their any relevance to them at all?
