Jonny Barr
Blending traditional and digital photographic techniques I explore empty and temporary spaces. Current work portrays natural spaces at night or in the hours of failing light, which has allowed the capture of deeper, richer and more sombre tones. Working at night also enables experimentation with spatial awareness with the aspect of time as a recurring theme enhanced by contrast between sharp detail and movement conveyed through long exposures. I am currently developing portable lighting into my work which allows me to completely light create my own environment or use it to subtly enhance particular details and examine the way light falls. The ability to sculpt the light is one of the principal reasons I prefer to work at night but also because of the peace and calm I experience when away from the city.
