Self-Similarity
In mathematics, a self-similar object is exactly or approximately similar to a part of itself. Many objects in the real world, such as coastlines, rock faces, and leaves, are statistically self-similar. For this suite of images, I chose particularised topographical locations which represent my interpretation of the self-similar landscape. Within this series of images, I am also considered a self-similar object. Essentially, this project is a meditation on my relationship with the landscape. It is a reflection on the nature of my own personal interaction with a specific geographical environment. The project was primarily undertaken as an endeavour to ascertain aspects of my identity, through the physical engagement with a landscape, which is steeped in familial history.
