Elliott Wilcox
This work examines representations of enclosed space concentrating on sporting courts. In photographing the courts as a space and taking them out of context, it provides new light. The camera shows details, which people who play the sport miss and viewers can see closely, the subtleties go un-noticed. The vivid stains, blood, scratches force the viewers focus on these details rather than just the court. The courts have one single use, for sports. These normally sub-conscious spaces become alive. Much like a gallery space is missed to the artwork, the space of these courts is missed to the sport. The un-judgemental image creates an experience to explore, a path to revealing the un-noticed and exposing the un-exposed, romanticising the courts.
