Rejuvenation: Tree Felling in Guisborough Woods
Guisborough Woods in the North East of England is currently the subject of an extensive 50-year scheme in which the Forestry Commission plans to replace trees of the conifer species with the native species, oak. The aim of this photographic study is to educate the viewer on the subject of tree felling, as it is seen in such a negative light due to the vast, empty spaces the workers leave behind. The Forestry Commission's work within this particular woodland is actually helping to create better habitats for birds and animals as well as widening the forest's biodiversity. The reality is that the felling of trees in Guisborough Woods is part of a restorative process, not a destructive one.
