Raquel Ferreirinha
the lines of life itself
A lot of human experience is shared, global and recognisable, yet most of the imagery we feed our gaze is not. We carry little portals to the world in our pockets that keep us from being in our worlds. While ‘mindfulness’ has become a buzzword in recent years, we don’t always have the tools to incorporate this ancient Buddhist concept in our way of living. Our eyes have become progressively myopic in the observation of life happening here and now. In my safe and privileged sliver of the planet, I feel compelled to acknowledge the beauty in the banal, ephemeral and repetitive moments of the everyday. I am welcomed in my neighbours' homes and fuse myself into the tapestry of their routines. The viewer is invited to stop and see the art in the familiar scenes we regularly overlook.
