Danilo Zocatelli Cesco

Dear Father

"Dear Father" subverts traditional paternal love and explores acceptance through role reversal. By painting his face, my father became the performer, while my queerness, long hair, and piercings became normalized. His exaggerated features reflected my own, freeing me from performing societal expectations. Photographing my father in drag doing everyday tasks on our Brazilian farm recaptured childhood memories, challenging norms. This project directly addresses those who misunderstood and labeled me 'golo' (from family dialect ‘faggot’). "Dear Father" transforms this taunt into a catalyst for change through an intimate exploration of my relationship with my father. It demonstrates my father's acceptance and sends a clear message to extended family and friends in Brazil, showcasing shared love and understanding.
