Zhuoheng Li
Noctiflorous
Noctiflorous examines contemporary Chinese history spanning two centuries, from reform and opening up to China's entry into the WTO In the work, I chose eight typical events and interpreted organised scene with staged photography. From the wave of layoffs in the 90's to the expansion of China's urban scale, these changes in the grand narrative become an unbearable weight on everyone's body. I transform the scattered texts into related visual symbols, and create a rich pictorial language by stacking them in an orderly manner. Audiences can not only understand these heartbreaking stories from the image narratives, but also feel the emotions and metaphors hidden in the stories.
