Static Artefacts
My grandmother rarely leaves her small St. Petersburg flat. The TV has become her source of social connection, entertainment, information, and routine. The TV guide forms the foundation of her daily schedule. "The modern age is essentially that of modern technics," said Bernard Stiegler. Television, as one form of media, allows us to form ideas and concepts that blur the line between actuality and fiction. This blurring challenges our understanding of actuality, history, and memory. I sat in a small room in her apartment, watching the same channel as her. I printed the images onto photographic paper from the surface of the static screen and developed them within the room. These are the artefacts I hold and sit with, still.
