Georgia De la Bertauche-Bull
Inspired by the Dada and Surrealist movements, my work explores the complex subject of disability, with a specific focus on Fibromyalgia. Piecing together bold, disjointed fragments taken directly from today's zeitgeist in the form of newspapers, magazines and my archive, I invite the viewer to see disability from the perspective of someone who has the illness rather than from a detached, voyeuristic one. The work features embroidery thread pierced and woven through each piece, a tactile addition that acts as lines of tension, puppeteering the bodies. I hope to encourage dialogue about the lack of disability representation in visual media and the absence of disabled voices telling their own stories.
