Nina Kostamo Deschamps
Usva
Usva (“mist” in Finnish) is Nina Kostamo Deschamps’ ongoing project, exploring the concept of place attachment, the deep emotional bonds between people, places, and the memories that connect them. Places serve as silent witnesses to the passage of time, capturing the layers of life lived within them. Rooted in Northern Finland, Usva reflects on the emotional significance of her grandparents’ home near the Arctic Circle, a place that became a second home and emotional anchor, and the quiet grief that followed its loss. She creates layered visual narratives that honour what once was and examine how place shapes identity, values, and memory.
