Sense of Self
Inspired by Sylvia Plath's metaphor of the fig tree, Sense of Self explores the complexities of choice and identity experienced by a woman in her late 20s. “I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose” (Plath, 1966). Sense of Self is a series of digital pinhole self-portraits paired with intimate macro images that linger on detail. These contrasting visual approaches allow me to externalise the inner conflict between detachment and intensity, distance and closeness, hesitation and desire.
