Claire Duquesne
This Is An Island
Raised in the Pacific Northwest of America, and having lived in cities across the world, Claire Duquesne emigrated to Scotland a decade ago. Her work is rooted in reflections of time and space, seeking to capture the essence of place and its relationship to identity. In Scotland, it is estimated that the furthest point from the sea is a mere 40 miles. It is tempting to think of island life as being tropical or remote, but so often we forget that Britain and Ireland are islands, culturally and emotionally. Spanning over 10 years, This Is An Island is a culmination of photographic work that reflects on what it means to live on an island shaped by weather, land and sea.
