The Unbounded Space of Nature
In Ireland, the church as a space is emptying. The boundaries the Catholic Church put around its followers have been pushed open, leaving many seeking spirituality in nature. 'The Unbounded Space of Nature', a multidisciplinary project, emerged from a conversation between my mother and me discussing our relationship to nature and religion. A short film is set on a shoreline in the South of Ireland; the conversation unfolds organically with its surroundings, as we exchange different generational female voices and appreciate the enduring, ineffable feeling and security within the presence and space of nature. My photographic work juxtaposes open spaces with the architectural confinement of the church, highlighting the psychological impact of the spaces we occupy.
