Piers and Harbours

How we choose to look at the world - what we pay attention to, and what we disregard as irrelevant - is fundamentally political. Piers and Harbours draws our attention to the act of looking at the landscape in front of us. During the Great Famine, appeals were made to the authorities for funds to build structures at all of these sites. Today, when we look at them we no longer consider how they got here, nor do we recognise an absence where no structure stands. The pictures encourage us to seek the hidden in the landscape. Not necessarily what lies beneath the earth, but for histories and contexts that have become hidden or lost to us over time.
