Faces of Resilience: The Iranian Diaspora in Sussex
Portraiture lies at the heart of Faces of Resilience, in which I document Iranians who, like me, rebuilt their lives in the UK following the 1979 revolution. These intimate portraits honour the resilience of the Iranian diaspora in Sussex, shaped by displacement yet grounded in dignity and cultural pride. Still life photographs—featuring objects from the Haft Seen, the symbolic Nowruz (Iranian New Year) table—serve as allegories of renewal, growth, and continuity. Items such as pomegranates, hyacinths, and coins evoke themes of rebirth and transformation. Together, the portraits and still life images create a quiet, poetic dialogue on migration, memory, and belonging—affirming the enduring power of heritage across borders and generations.
