Leah Penn
Journey
My series Journey combines observation-led research, walking and photography. Through this work, I revisit sites of personal importance in Cumbria, the land in which I grew up. I used this project as a personal investigation, to find what I’m truly interested in and to build my photographic identity. Sometimes restricting myself to a set of instructions or parameters and other times photographing aspects of the landscape that caught my eye, I built up an archive of images. Over the course of four months, I immersed myself in nature, taking photographs and reviewing the results in the studio, to find themes, topics and interests which I wasn’t aware of while shooting.
