Ella Redmond
Comfort in Distress
Ella Redmond’s project Comfort in Distress is an exploration of a changing mother-daughter relationship. From the perspective of a daughter, she captures a shifted, distanced relationship while reflecting on the emotions, changes and feelings it’s provoked. Prompted by the growing time since the final interaction, she captures the absence through the use of archival images and metaphorical landscapes. What is referred to as a significant familial relationship, she documents the impacts of inconsistency and uncertainty from that relationship, with themes of nostalgia and space to reflect. She hopes it provides a safe space for the audience to reflect on their familial relationship.
