Invisible Women
Artist Statement — Invisible Women Invisible Women is a photographic trilogy exploring representation, visibility, and authorship through collaborative portraiture. Focusing on three women from different walks of life, the project questions who is seen, who is overlooked, and who has the power to decide. The work challenges cultural narratives that position ageing women as invisible or irrelevant. Instead of framing ageing as decline, it presents it as presence, grounded, self-assured, and worthy of attention. Each woman is actively involved in shaping her image, disrupting traditional power dynamics between photographer and subject. By intentionally directing the gaze, this project shifts visibility from the margins to the centre. It resists idealisation and commercial expectations, and instead values lived experience, identity, and self-representation. Invisible Women ultimately asks: who is allowed to be visible, and on whose terms?
