Lucas Davies
meaningful meaningless
Lucas's work explores the relationship with place through memory, focusing on ordinary, often overlooked spaces such as bus stops, walkways, and other everyday environments known as non-places or placelessness. These places are typically seen as having little or no meaning, with no sense of place, but through personal experience, they have been challenged and have come to be seen differently. Using a tilt-shift lens, Lucas isolates specific details within each scene, allowing the rest to fall out of focus, reflecting the way memory works - clear in parts, and faded in others. Each image is paired with a title drawn from personal experiences, offering a snippet of personal meaning from personal memories while leaving space for the viewer to form their own narrative. Ultimately, this project finds meaning in places often considered meaningless.
