Polished Pressure
My practice explores themes of consumer culture, identity, and emotional pressure through staged conceptual photography. Combining elements of fashion, still life, and performance, I create constructed images that balance humour, discomfort, and visual attraction. Everyday domestic objects and beauty-related items are presented using the visual language of luxury advertising, questioning how desire and value can be artificially created. Alongside these works, more personal images explore feelings of anxiety, overstimulation, and the pressures of contemporary life. Using colour, lighting, I aim to create photographs that feel both playful and unsettling. My work reflects an ongoing interest in how people perform identity through beauty, consumption, and social expectations, while continuing to develop my visual language through experimentation and imagery.
