Martyn Cain
Dogs.
In this body of work, I seek to elevate the humble dog portrait. My process is a deliberate dialogue between photography and painting. I begin by capturing quiet, gentle moments that focus entirely on the animal's raw character. I then use digital compositing to place the subjects directly into dramatic, painterly landscapes reminiscent of traditional eighteenth-century oil portraits. By pairing authentic photographic moments with highly constructed, digitally painted environments, the work bridges the gap between reality and historical fiction. Ultimately, I want viewers to look past the novelty of the medium and connect deeply with the soulful, dignified presence of man’s best friend.
