Alter Ego: Performed Femininity and Emotional States
Alter Ego: Performed Femininity and Emotional States is a Fine Art, self-portrait series that explores femininity as a performative and emotionally driven identity rather than something fixed. The project presents a single subject through five alter egos, each defined by a colour system representing different psychological states: pink (performance), red (intensity), green (instability), blue (isolation), and purple (dissociation). Although not strictly autobiographical, the work is informed by some personal experiences including ongoing mental health struggles and a heightened awareness of the pressure to perform femininity. The images were created mainly in domestic spaces, reflecting intimacy, routine, and the tension between safety and restriction. Through controlled compositions and neutral expressions, the work invites recognition, discomfort, and empathy.
