Yousuf Malik
My work explores surreal and distorted realities, a blurred experience of dissociation and dreams. Movement plays a key role in my photography adding energy. The use of colour is very intentional, a consistent palette was used to tie together the wide range of abstract forms found throughout. Inspirations behind the work included childhood memories of water and light dancing together under bodies of water, in addition to studying various abstract and fashion photographers. As the work developed from abstract floral and liquid frames to portrait photography, a harmonious blending was formed through risograph printing. A stable repetitive process that allowed for spontaneity and foggy dreamlike layers. All in a style that retains the intended psychedelic undertone of the project.
