Two Rhythms Aligned
Two Rhythms Aligned is a personal and extensive body of work, developed over a year, rooted in a lifetime of navigating dual identity. With a British mother and a Brazilian father, I search for the balance between two cultures central to my upbringing. As I uncover both the beauty and confusion of being mixed-race and holding dual nationality.Each artwork reflects a different facet of this experience, tracing my journey toward self- acceptance. Growing up between cultures oceans apart, I often felt lost within familiarity; caught between two worlds that could not be more different. This project unpicks how one finds themself within that. From contrasts between a colonised and colonising nation, to differing views on nationalism, embraced in Brazil but often viewed negatively in the UK, to broader differences in values and social norms. These works examine how identity is shaped within these divides, finding harmony between them.
