Jamesena Murphy Boylan
These lumen prints were created in Rossmore Forest Park in County Monaghan using only materials gathered from the surroundings and placed directly onto photosensitive paper. The series demonstrates the interaction between light, weather and the photosensitive paper, allowing each photograph to develop through an uncontrolled, time-based process. Uncertainty is embraced as a central theme, documenting traces of time and the transformation of the photosensitive paper under changing environmental conditions. The photographs engage with the Victorian language of flowers, known as Floriography, in which plants conveyed hidden meanings and emotions. Combining this historical reference with an experimental process, the prints connect nature, symbolism and visual communication. In conclusion, the meaning projected onto plants and photography is continually changing.
