Jess Saxton
I am a conceptual still life based photographer, mainly exploring social and personal themes through objects. Set design, prop styling and colour are all a significant part of my practice and how I communicate my chosen themes. The themes that I have explored include overconsumption where I used constructed sets to visually elevate TikTok shop products and reflect the exaggerative tone of influencers. I explored gender stereotypes by placing a stereotypically gendered object in a stereotypical constructed setting of the opposite gender as an element of juxtaposition. I explored the pink tax by using props to enhance the appearance of the female targeted products and stripped back the male targeted products to question the price differences of the same products.
