Carcass Cuisine
Abject art is often portrayed as confrontational. Imagery intended to unsettle are desaturated and made to repel, the grotesque is presented as something improper and difficult to witness. Carcass Cuisine instead approaches abject through aestheticisation, using grotesque matter to create beauty. Balancing the line between ripe and rotten, the work questions whether subjects associated with disgust are inherently ugly. Putrid matter is presented unapologetically, allowing the beauty of macro detail to overcome repulsion. Rather than rejecting the grotesque, the work lingers within it, embracing the organic forms it captures rather than rejecting it.
