Price of Perfection
‘Price of Perfection’ investigates the issue of women being objectified sexually through social media, advertising, and societal norms. The work rejects the beauty and cosmetic industry through themes of fragmented identity, the female experience, consumer culture, the male gaze, and industrialised beauty standards. The work highlights the issues within the beauty and cosmetic industries through the body and the grotesque. It uses the themes of advertising of beauty products and treatments to reveal to the viewers how they are being misrepresented through fragmented body parts and sexual poses. Through using portraits, the female body and collage, it aims to show the mental and physical effects that the over-sexualisation of the female body are having on young women and girls today.
