The Old Unfamiliar
'The Old Unfamiliar' explores my hazy, half-remembered memories of childhood through who I am today. Almost a decade after my grandmother’s passing, I found myself back where she lived, photographing locations I had once known but have lost connection to. Streets that were filled with laughter and friends are now hollow and forgotten. The vivacity of childhood has been replaced by adulthood’s responsibilities, the emptiness in the picture’s pointing to a tension between what has been lost and what I have tried to remember. In revisiting these places, I realised how easily memories can fade as life moves forward. This project is a quiet reminder to cherish the memories we love and not allow everyday distractions to let them fade.
