A Place of Return
‘A Place of Return’ is a cyclical photographic series exploring memory, childhood, and how early experiences continue to shape who we become. Using constructed self-portraits, nostalgic objects, and locations connected to my upbringing, alongside archival family photographs and letters from mental health professionals, I reconstruct emotional experiences that continue to shape my understanding of myself today. The work follows three stages: Innocence, Disorder, and Emergence. It begins with early childhood, shaped by comfort and routine, before moving into a period of disruption marked by school refusal and unresolved diagnostic processes. The final stage reflects growth, recognising that a lack of clear answers does not define identity, and that healing and change are possible over time.
