Unsatisfied Satisfaction
‘Unsatisfied Satisfaction’ is a body of work that reframes common misconceptions of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), challenging its misrecognition for perfectionism. It presents OCD not as a preference but as doubt shaped by compulsion and psychological unrest. By deconstructing the aestheticisation of OCD as neatness, this series exposes the debilitating experiences of everyday life, intrusive thoughts and coping mechanisms, that coexist with - but are not defined by - perfectionist tendencies. This work seeks to expand neurotypical understandings of OCD while offering a sense of recognition to those who live with it. Through a series of interconnected mini projects, this work explores different subtypes of OCD, revealing the conditions’ complexity and variation, reflecting both visible behaviours and the internal psychological tension.
