Matthew Lindsey
The clear and frontal photograph has been widely used in art as a way of having direct access to the referent depicted in the photograph rather than being distracted by its pictorial conventions. However this definition of a straight photograph is often challenged when pictures that are about photography itself use this construct. These pictures have a strong self-reflexive element as well as utilising a form of photographic objectivity.
