Efflorescence
I have chosen a selection of images from a much larger body of work featuring subjects that evoke a sense of loneliness or longing. When a sense of disillusionment manifests itself, uncertainty creeps in and all that we are left to do is comprehend what remains. For this set of images pedestrian underpasses, motorway bridges, car parks and tower blocks become the spaces that resonate feelings of isolation and emptiness. These spaces also contain the motifs of Modernist architecture, signifying a time when utopian, democratic and socialist ideals were seen as a viable alternative to totalitarianism.
