The tradition of wearing masks was used in the rituals and traditions that marked a tribe's most important celebrations and transitions. Now, that the tradition of physical masking has all but disappeared in civilized society, the false veneers of social masks have become permanently glued to our faces. "Persona" is essentially showing how we present a certain face or persona to the world. Lurking beneath the mask we keep our true feelings to ourselves. The different masks that people wear in the course of a day act as a social disguise and help them to get through a variety of situations. Francis Bacon, Picasso, Lucian Freud and Joanna Kane have been my main sources of inspiration in creating this series.
