Nigel Tribbeck
Photography is a technology of light, currently linked to the digital era. My photomedia works are light-space-time constructs about the technologizing of light and the digital camera's data gathering and computing capabilities. They are borne out of the medium of digital photography, which they address by challenging aspects of the complex technology involved in the digital process. I am not using the camera to capture what the eye perceives. Instead I am subverting the digital camera's modus operandi by forcing it to make sense of lighting conditions beyond the remit of its design. My works aim to invite an experiential engagement and an active participation by frustrating the impulse to 'read' a photograph in the conventional way.
