Vascular Dementia makes it impossible to remember recent events, which practically and emotionally contextualise ones life. By witnessing the difficulties my Grandmother, Betty, went through, I noticed that she lived in the past tense; sometimes just by talking, at other times believing she was there. Subsequently, when her memory momentarily returned, she became disorientated and frightened; to such an extent, the only place of sanctuary was her home. In this project I wanted to visualise the internal fragmentation Betty experienced, and used the external vision of her glasses to do so. Thus bringing understanding to the reality that without the confidence our memories and surroundings provide, we, become fragmented facets of identity, making the human experience a deeply troubled one.
