China Clay mining has shaped the landscape and community of the largest St Austell. The industry created villages and with that, communities, at the same time the ever expanding pits also brought an end to certain villages. Greensplat and Retew met this fate so the industry has had its advantages and disadvantages. It shaped a landscape and its people and continues to do so today. Alongside my own work where I document the landscape, I have been working with an archive that I have been building. The ECC Review was a publication created by the main clay company in the area, it highlighted the importance of what a community holds and played a huge part in building my archive.
