The Duplicates
What it is to give birth to a girl, for in a daughter lies the blueprint of woman, the mother's body duplicated. Shaped by generations of women who came before, what history, what responsibility a mother carries. What obligations await the daughter. Manipulated, duplicated and scrutinized like the images themselves, humanity depends on her. The work explores my complex emotions, hopes and fears of raising a daughter in a world laden with personal, social, cultural and physical expectations of women and their bodies. It is at once the most personal lamentation and yet bigger than any of us.
