We Were Never There
We Were Never There is a series of work based on my Dad's old family album photographs, which looks at the changing relationship we have to sentimental memory. The reworking of the photographs from the 1960s to the 1980s considers the significance of the family photographs through the loss and absence experienced during a person's life; by removing the family members from the pictures. This leaves a photograph with a different perspective: depersonalised and disconnected to the original memory of my Dad's youth. The images illustrate a different perspective of the loss of youth and loved ones. The series also reflects on the loss of the traditional family album due to contemporary practices of social media and the digital age
